A statement made at a Christchurch unemployed deputation that the Mayor of Wellington “ran through the Town Hall with unemployed after him,” has a touch of poetic license about it. The Mayor of Wellington is scarcely the man to run through the Town Hall or anywhere) else under those circumstances, hut what really happened is explained by the “Post.” A few weeks ago a deputation of unemplayed, including several of those who had taken a lending part in blocking the Mayor’s proposal to make an appeal to the public for contributions to the relief fund, waited upon him in his room. The attitude of one man in particular was objected to by Mr Troup, who asked him to leave. The man refused, and passed a remark exhorting his comrades “not to stand for that.” Mr Troup replied that if that person would not leave he would. He walked through the door into Ins secretary's room and called on the custodian to see that the deputation withdrew. A detective was also present, and under their direction the twenty or so men simply walked out and down the stairs.
