INCREASED DUTY ON TEA

CANBERRA. Oct. 30,

The meeting of the Labour caucus concentrated on the emergency proposals of Air Lyons to relieve the financial difficulties of the Commonwealth. Plans for additional taxation were agreed- to with a modification to meet tile wishes of the rank and file of the party. Cabinet held a special meeting and nt-scnled to a revision of the suggestions previously- drafted to meet objections -that had been raised. The cam us approved, of a proposal to adopt, taxation of between threepence and fourpence per pound on tea, to realise an estimated amount of half a million sterling. A Bill will be introduced and the tax become operative immediately. Other proposals agreed to included an increase of two and a half per cent primage duty imposed by the last-, budget and increased taxation on incomo derived from property.
