IMPERIAL CONFERENCE
AIR SOUL LIN'S VIEWS
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copy ri gh t.)
LONDON, October 29,
Air Scull in, broadcasting to-night, declared the Imperial Conference of 1930 in the economic sphere, had given a splendid impetus to closer Empire economic co-operation. It will remain for some, subsequent discussion to evolve the precise measures. Air Scullin, while not alluding to Air MacDonald’s overthrow of preferences yesterday, significantly reiterates that the Dominions still believe tariff preferences the simplest and most effective methods of expanding Empire -economic co-operation. He adds that the British Government takes cognisance of the special circumstances -of their own country and dependence generally on overseas trade, and suggests the quota’s import boards, and bulk purchase might be alternatives. Air Scullin concludes that although' the economic achievements of the 1930 Conference may not present an imposing array, we shall have laid the foundations for greater British economic co-operation.
