On Monday evening Mr William Smith, of Hampden -Street, celebrated his 80th birthday. The funeral of the late- Mr A. B. King took place this morning leaving the. residence Hampden Street at 10 o’clock. There wn« a large attendance of mourners present representative of the whole district to pay the last mark of respect to the deceased. The Rev. Mr McClymont, of Ross conducted the services at the residence and graveside. Many handsome floral tributes were received including wreaths from the Arabura Dairy Factory Coy. and the Now Zealand Insurance Company.

The West Coast Fire Brigades Association demonstration takes place at Ross on -Saturday next and a full day will result. All the West Coast Fire Brigades, nine in number, have teams competing, and as there are seven events for each team the proceedings will have to move briskly to be completed in the day and interesting competitions will result. The visiting firemen will be entertained at a ball on Friday evening and on Saturday evening at a banquet. The Ross people are always most hospitable so that the forty or fifty visiting, firemen (should have an enjoyable outing to tire southern township.
