At an up-country police-court the other clay a tramp was charged with stealing a tan of tobacco from a local general store. It appeared that the man had entered the store to buy matches, found no one behind the countei’—and fell for the ’baccy. He pleaded guilty and his counsel urged that shop-keepei'is had no right to put temptation in the way of casual callers by exposing tobacco for sale on their counters—especially tobacco of the popular New Zealand toasted sort, as in this case. The plea wais rather a novel one but it proved effective with the two justices on the Bench, and incidentally served as a fine advertisement fov New Zealand toasted tobacco. The toasting process rids the leaf of nearly all its nicotine and imparts to it its fine flavour and delicious bouquet. You can smoke this tobacco freely without risk to health. There are only four brands—lliverhead Gold, Cavendish. Navy Cut No. 3, and Cut Plug N. 10. But of course there are imitations.—Advt.
