SYDNEY, Oct. 28. The present state of the parties is Labour 51 Nationalist 21 Country Party 12 Doubtful 6

The latest figures indicate that W. J. Ratcliffe (Labour) gains Barwon, A. Lauda (Labour) gains Bondi, W. Hedges (Country Party) retains Moil aro.

In the six still doubtful the leaders are: In Ashburnham, T. W. Cast; Dubbo, A. McLelland; Murray, J. Donovan; Ya.ss, W. M. Webster; Young, C. Martin (all these are Labourites) ; Henley (Nationalist) is expected to retain Burwood. The Ternora (seat which was at first doubtful, it now appears is retained by H. Main, of the Country Party. The Casino seat, which was credited to B. L. Vincent, for the Country Party, is now uncertan, though sure to bo retained by one of tbe same party’s five candidates, probably J. T. Reid.

Of 1 195,802 votes counted. Labour polled 663,766, and Nationalist 484,221.

COUNTRY PARTY’S BREAKAWAY

SYDNEY, Oct. 28

The Leaders of the Federal and ■State Country Parties announced today that the Party’s Pact with the Nationalists had ended, and that for the future the elections would be fought by them as separate entities. He stated the Country Party members would, however, be prepared to co-poerate with the Nationalists m opposing any measure of which they may not approve. The view is held that the Country Party candidates would do much better in representing solely their own party. MEETING OF NEW ASSEMLY. SYDNEY, Oct. 28. Mr J. T. Lang (Labour Leader) has returned to Sydney after a brief rest in the country. It is expected that tbe new Parliament will assemble on November 25, for a short session before Christmas. The turnover at the Stock Exchange to-day was of considerable dimensions, but the prices generally were lower owing to the uncertainty of the political outlook, both 'Federal anc State.
