LABOUR CAUCUS

MODERATES. PREY AIL

(Australian Press Association.)

(Received this day at 8 a.m.)

CANBERRA, Oct. 29

The Federal Parliamentary Caucus had another all dly session, bat no dcuVous were announced. It is understood the moderate section of the party prevailed upon their colleagues to do nothing at the forthcoming parliamentary session likely to embarrass Mr Soullin’s mission in London. It is likely the Nioineyer policy will be endorsed after all. A STORMY: MEETING. (Received this day at 11 a.m.) CANBERRA, October 29. There were indications at the caucus meeting that the caucus will reject the most important of Cabinet’s proposals for balancing the Budget. In some quarters it is thought the proposals will' be rejected in their entirety. The “Herald” says the meeting was particularly stormy. Messrs Theodore and Anstey attacked the Budget proposal favoured by Messrs Fenton and Lyons and angry passages were exchanged between Fenton and Theodore.

Anstey criticised tbe proposals and said they were m conflict, with Labour’s ideals and he would he compelled to resign from Cabinet if they agreed to the proposals for altered control of the Commonwealth Bank submitted, but tbe discussions wero adjourned. A meeting of tbe Loan Council will be held at Canberra as early as possible after members of the N.9.W. Ministry are sworn in.

The “TLfcgraph Pictorial” saws that there is now every probably of a double dissolution of the Federal Parliament in tbe near future and an appeal to the country on what will amount to Governmental control of the national finances. Both Lyons and Fenton will be forced either to resign from the Ministry or to accept the- views of the militants in tbe party.

Tbe “Guardian” says that tbe caucus meeting, is said to have been the stormiest in the history of the Federal Labour Party.

A message from Mr Scullin supporting tbe proposals of Mr Lyons to honour tbe Melbourne agreement was ignored by members. It is expected that the House will adjourn until Mr Seullin’s return.
