MOTOR TRANSPORT. Steady development of motor transport in New Zealand is revealed by figures published in the Monthly Abstract of Statistics. __ ; The North Island has 72 pen- cent of the buses, 67 per cent of tire passenger service cars, 75 per cent of the freight vehicles and 66 per c-.ent of the combined passenger and frejght yehielcW.
The number of people, engaged in connection with the services is 3374, and the mileage covered in August by motor transport vehicles was 3,560,000. Buses carried 2,077,356 passengers for £59,291 during lie period; passenger service cars 102,184 for £36,831, and freight vehicles 89,180 tons for £52,932.
