THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
LAND FOR, SETTLEMENT. The suggestion of the Leader of. the Opposition, that Jess money should be spent on railway construction and more on land settlement, should be (seriously considered by the Government. Rut the most important feature of the late debate was the statement by the acting-head of the Government, that he is. determined to get results in land settlement,, and that if these are not obtained quickly he will consider changing his advisers and executive officers. This is the right spirit. If the Government was> put in for any one purpose more than another, it was to succeed in laud settlement, where Reform had failed. —Northern paper.
