The Commissioner of Tnxefi draws the attention of taxpayers to the notification appearing in to-day’s issuo that the due date of payment of Land-tax for the current year is on Friday, the "th day of November, 1930, and that the demands will he posted on or about the 31st day ol October.
A large puriri moth measuring six and a half inches across with wings outspread, and with a body three inches long, was discovered by Mr T. H. Cox, of Pukehobe East, in a paddock on his property last week. The under wings of the moth were like fine silk, and the outer wings were multi-coloured., bright green and yellow predominating. When discovered, one of the wings was broken. Mr Cox forwarded the moth to Mr 'Gilbert Archey, Curator of the Auckland Museum, who has informed him that one of the species is already in the Museum.

The death of Air Joseph Baybutt, occurred last evening at* the Grey River Hospital. The deceased, who formerly was for many years in busiiiess at Gveymouth as a cabinet-maker, was seventy-two years of age, and had lived fifty-six years in Dominion. He was a native of Tarleton, near Preston, Lancashire, England. His wife died some years ago, and also his brother Thomas, while Mr Daniel Baynutt, formerly of Ngnhero and now of the North Island, is a brother of deceased.
The death took place at Reefton on Wednesday night of Mrs Farrell,. of Duller Road. The deceased lady ‘took suddenly ill, and while her daughter, Miss Dora Farrell, was seeking medical aid, she expired. She was an old resident of Reefton, and was highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs McEwin, Christchurch, and Miss Bora
Farrell, of the Inangahua County staff, and bv two sons, Harold (Reefton) and William (Runanga).
It lias been' deckled to hold the next Old Time Ball and Slipper at the Soldiers’ Ela.ll on Wednesday, lTf.h 1 November, and this event will he followed two nights later, Friday, 14th November,; (with the reunion of ILS.A. ex-servicemen. There has been a general wish for another old time ball to be held, and to enable this to be done, on a Wednesday, the popular dance night, the re-union gathering has been changed from the 12th to the 14th of next month. Both events arc sure to commend special attention, and large gatherings • are expected for the two functions
When sneaking at the Princess Theatre last evening in appreciation of the value of culture, Mr Evans remarked that in these days when so much attention was paid to “bias” in the educational course, more attention was not given at the school to the work, He recalled that, in the 'seventies when the State (School was established here it had a well equipped gymnasium, and an instructor in the -person of' Professor David. Useful.work was done in those days in regard to physical training, and it would 'he in the interests of the rising generation to revive that form of healthful training at the principal schools of the district where the instruction could be given nowadays.
