PRINCESS THEATRE

| % GYMNASTIC DISPLAY. The novel and interesting entertainment supplied at the Princess Theatre last evening by the Ladies Gymnastic Club was a very pleasurable presentation. There was a good attendance, though the merits of the' programme merited (better support. The visiting team from Christcinlich, Mr J. Musson and his four pu-pils, .were of course an acquisition, out special praise must be given to the local Club, the members oi wnich, 'senior and junior, acquitted themselves so' capably. There were two crowded parts to tlie (programme, and the lnaiuigUliient is to be congratulated on the punctuality deserved, and the celerity with which tfhe various items wore presented The team work - was all good, 'The, Xihristohurdh athletic team was seen first in an exhibition on the Roman rings t Aliases Aiastin and Pye (2) being the performers. Eadt in turn did several very clever feats. The tumbling and pyramids by the visitors were excellent. Air Musson was the leading performer in these features, and everything was neatly and cleanly done, earning rounlds of appLaliv.se. The dlactrie clubs bv the four young ladies was an effective 'ijtem, ?<hd deservedly applauded. Mr Musson featured a skipping -dance which was very cleverly performed. The isolo dances by Miss Austin were special gems in their category. The first was the dance “Oriental,” performed most gracefully. The second a toe dance also given gracefully. With Mr Musson,’ Miss Austin performed the Adagio, a happy blending of toe movements and graceful poses. Altogether the visitors performed excellently, and well deserved the round upon round of applause which greeted them. The Ladies Club had quite -a larige part in the programme. They opened with marching, grouping and, figures, over fifty performers taking part, all neatly and smartly dressed. Club exercises by the senior pupils demonstrated the useful work which is 'the foundation of their training. The junior pupils were clever in the physical exercises, and showed general excellence in their work. Inter they performed equally creditably with the clubs. The senior pupils acquitted themselves capitally in the physical exercises. Their ballet dance was also given with a spirit, and the juniors did equally well, the dressing in Ik) tli instances being captivating. The final phase by the Club members, was tumbling and pyramids in which all took part, under the dire-e. Don of Miss Austin, their tutor, and gave a remarkably fine display for >brief time which lias been available for preparation. The Club is certainly to be congratulated on its initial (presentation. The programme was varied with musical and elocutionary items. Miss AfdOurdy, a visitor, from Dunedin, and M.iss. Ada Lynn, were . the vocalists, and. each 'performed delightfully, winning encores. Miss Giese supplied -fjljle accompaniments. Humorous recitations wore given by Alls'Helen Renton and Miss Edna Fowler each number having a moral. Both were 'loudly Hpplnudod* A preitty duet by little Mishas M. and J. Con!son was a very acceptable', item. • The Black Hand Orchestra, under Air A. Pawn, played a spirited overture, and an entracte of popular numbers very acceptably. Last, but not least, Miss Gwen Jacobs, who presided at the Ipiano, for the musical urriowvmniments for the gymnastic display, must be mentioned specially for the good work throughout the evening.

During a brief interval Air Evans, 'President of the Club, thanked the public' for their patronage, and appreciated the kind help afforded by Mr Afusson and his party wlho had come out of their good nature from Ohrietchurdh to help with the presentation. Special reference wgs made to Al.iss Austin’s good work 7 in the short time at her disposal, and on 'behalf of the 0,1 ub members, J.ittle Jean On- presented a a bouquet and little Kewpie Orr presented a clock to ATits Austin with the good wishes of all. An acknowledgement was made also to Al.iss Gwen Jacobs. Air Alusson replied on behalf of Miss Austin and his party expressing thanks for the appreciation shown. Hearty cheers mere given for Afr Alusson and his team.
