RADIO PROGRAMME

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 23rd. A concert programme to be given by the Auckland Branch of the Alpine Sports Club will be relayed from the Lewis Eady Hall by IYA this evening. The artists apearing on the programme will be Mr W. H. Cocker, Miss Theo Halpin, Mr J. L, Chapman, Misß Hilda Moi ■se, Air Jack Gordon and Professor R. M. Algie. The Wellington Municipal Tramways Band, (under the conductorship of Mr E. Franklin) assisted by 2YA artists will give another of their excellent studio programmes this evening. Bandsman Tallantyne, one of the finest solo trombone players in New Zealand, will play as a solo with band accompaniment a. special arrangement of the well known German ballad “Drinking.” The supporting items will include vocal numbers by the Lyric Quartet (both solo and concerted), and soprano solos by Miss Esme Crow and novelty piano slos by Mr Claud Bennett. • Four quartettes (thrre of them negro spiritual songs) are featured on 3YA’s orogramtne: “Nobody knows the Trouble.” “Oh, deni Golden Slippers,” “Deep River” and “Sweet and Low.” The vocalists will be the Melodious Four—Miss Frances Hamerton, Miss Millicent Jennings, Mr Russell Sumner and Air T. D. William®. Their vocal numbers will comprise as well as numerous solos. Two recitations will be given by Miss Ruby Boot. As a violin solo, Miss Tlielma. Cusack will play Glazounof’s “ATeditation” and an instrumental programme will be provided by the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio. ‘ Silent clay at 4YA. The civil welcome to be given at noon to-morrow to the admiral and officers of the visiting Dutch warships will be broadcast by IYA.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24th. Professor J. C. Sperrin-Johnston, President of the Auckland Zoological Society, will give a talk from IYA this evening, at 7.40 on “Survey of Recent Advancement in Zoology.” The feature of 1 YA’s concert programme will be a lecture-recital on the (ife and works of Liszt, to be given'by Airs Daisy Basham, assisted by Air Cyril Townsey, pianist. Air Victor Baxter, a young baritone from England, and Aliss Jessie Smith will contribute to the 'supplementary programme. Instrumental items will be given by the Studio Trio, -me hiding a cello solo by Aliss Lalla Henius and a violin solo by Air Whit ford Waugh. AR - Karl Atkinson will entertain with a gramophone lecture-recital on “Wagner.” 2YA\s programme will feature Signor Lucieu Cessaroni’s Operatic Company in excerpts from Verdi’s popular opera “II Trovatore.” The whole of Act 1 will be given, and excerpts of the other parts of tile opera will include all the well known and favourite solo.s and choruses. The soloist will be Signer Lucieu Cesaroni, who ranks as one of the finest operatic basses south of the Line. Interest will be added to this programme by the fact that before each number is presented a brief explanation will be given by Signor, Lurien Cesaroni.
Friday is the night for a “Popular Song and Dance” programme at 3YA. Songs by the Valencia Quartet will be interspersed by mouth organ items by AIV John Cnllacher, cornet solos by Air N. G. Goffin, and contributions from Aliss Elaine Moody’s Hawaiian Trio. From 9.30 till 11 p.m. there will be a dance music session.
4YA will be carrying out a relay from O'amaru—“Our Miss Gibbs,” — as presented by tlie Oamnru Operatic Society. The cast is an excellent one.
