BAILIFFS IN

EXTRAORDINARY SCENES

(Australian Press Association.)

SYDNEY, October 22

Extraordinary scenes, recalling the flight of,, war refugees, were witnessed to-day during an exodus of tenants from a large, fashionable residential house on the north side of Sydney harbour, owing to the bailiffs having taken charge. * Vehicles lined up and carted away trunks, and bags, and a. jumble of nondescript impedimenta. Portly ladies carried an assortment of boxes-, photographs, ' cushions, canaries in cages expensive parrots, and pomprafiian dogs.

.Hilarious young men were weighed down witli. stfjtrases, golf clubs and other snorting paraphernalia, and at either side of the main entrance of the palatial building there stood elderly, quiet, inoffensive-looking bailiffs, who were the immediate cause, though not the originating spring, for all the bother. ■ \

The majority of the departing tenants were lmpoy and were glad of there being fine weather for “moving dnv.”

The furniture went extraordinarily cheap at the ‘bailiff#*’ sate afterwards. Double beds brought 2s 6d, wardrobes 3s, tables Is, ‘and sedan"’,chairs went for 4s.
