AUCKLAND, October 20.

An exciting incident occurred at Milford Bench ycsicrc.ay afternoon, when a young girl, Lilly clothed, walked into the water up to her neck. She was seen walking down tlie- beat'll and into the sea. Another young girl, Mis s Pocock, immediately commenced to wa.de out after her. A crowd quickly gathered and Mr A. Wnrbrick, manager of the Pirate Shin, called for a swimmer to go to the rescue, while lie got a boat. S. Wells, who is one of tlie most powerful swimmers in the Life Saving Club, dived in alter the two girls, who were then some distance out, with Miss Pocock making frantic efforts to overtake the other. Reaching tlie first girl, when she was up to her neck in water, Wells signalled Miss Porock to go ashore. The first girl struggled violently when Wells attempted to swim hack with her. nna it was some time before he w s able to quieten her, When the girl was brought ashore she was in a highly nervous state and after attention by a doctor was taken to the residence of her employers.' The girl, whose parents live in the country, has been showing signs of nervous strain for some weeks. She was to have .gone home'with her sister last Fridav. hut at the last minute refused to leave Auckland.
