UNEMPLOYMENT FUND
NEW BOARD TO FUNCTION. (By Telegraph—Per Association WELLINGTON, October 21. Another large deputation of unemployed waited on the Labour Minister, Hon. Mr Smith, asking for immediate action by the Government in order that the desperate distress of many of the men could be relieved. The Minister said that he would place the case immediately before Cabinet. The .Minister announced also that no hoped that the Unemployment Board would he functioning next month. He hoped that within a week after inoveruber 7th he would be able to announce the personnel of the Board. Ihe Board would set to work immediately, and with tire £IOO,OOO provided by UK; 'Government, it was hoped that work would he found in a very short time. The Minister denied absolutely and emphatically that the Government intended to sack hundreds of men ns soon as the session ended.- He syniphasised with the men in their efforts to obtain work, because lie believed that no one in the room wanted charity. and he hoped that tire Board would aid them in finding that work.
