BANK HELD UP. MANAGER SHOT. (Australian Press Association.) BRISBANE, Oct. 20. Burglars broke into the Bank of New South Wales at Kumundi, 79 miles north of Brisbane, early this morning. Tho accountant, Air C. S. Farmer pluckilv fought them, and called for help. He was nearly strangled when the manager, Mi Keith Graham, appeared on the scene, and was instantly shot in the abdomen. The burglars then, escaped. Neither Graham no r Farmer is seriously hurt. COMMERCIAL. SYDNEY WOOL MARKET. SYDNEY, October 20. At to-day’s wool sales, 12,563 bales were offered, and 10,766 were sold, and also 1,785 which were disposed of privately. The average price of wool last week was eight decimal two pence per lb. There was good general competition to-day for better class fleeces and Skirtings, which were very firm and late rates. Greasy merino made 145 pence. 700 MILE RACE. CYCLISTS START OUT, SYDNEY, October 20. Fifty-three cyclists are taking part in the first road race from Sydney io Melbourne, the first stage of which ends today at Goulburn.

The “Herald” says, measures are being drafted by Mr Lyons and officials of the Treasury and Taxation Department for the special economy sesion of Parliament on October 30th. ,The> will it is understood, provide for an increase of the sales tax to meet the deficiency in revenue from this source. Measures are also expected to include an amending income tax bill to provide for increased taxation on larger incomes to counteract the falling revenue from Customs and excise.

Discussing the question of an honour for Kingsford Smith, Air lenton said that although the Labour party was opposed to granting a Knighthood, it would be possible for the Imperial Government to advise the King to eonifei that honour on Smith.
