The belief, that there is a “wellestablished, three-cornered alliance between the Chicago Police Department, corrupt politicians and the criminal element” was declared by the iSeptemjber grand jury, following its special into like activities of gangsters and racketeers. At the same time Dr Rundesen, the coroner resumed the inquest into the death of. the reporter Frank Lingle Frank Bell, a prisoner in the county prison, retold the story of t-ha murder of the former Chicago Tribune reporter.—a crime in which Bell admitted- that. lip. played a part, and which was followed by the murder of Chris Patras, a cafe, owner, who was to have paid £2990 for the murder of Lingle, aiid a similar amount for killing. Jack Zu-ta.
Two gangsters named Sullivan and Traum are on remand charged with haring been accessories after the fact, but the unnamed young man who actually shot Lingle is still not arrested.
I Bell admits playing Patras, 'beinn angered because the “pay-off” for previous crimes was not forthcoming.
