AGRICULTURE. “A few teachers.are stiff to be found who beat the pistol with their garde, work, and get the whole area plant" instead of awaiting instructions,” stated the report of the Agricultural Instructor (Mr AV. H. Johnston). “Although this form of enthusiasm t > a certain extent interferes with t' e uniformity of the season’s scheme, it provides a problem for the instructor to make such work conform to requirements. In any case such an error i« preferable to neglect. The Chief Agricultural Tiistru tor (Mr J. Brown) reported that in fruittree and forest nursery work the standard of performance last year was mediocre. The frequent changes of teachers. he thought, had something to do with this. Even simple work, such as the propagation, by cuttings, of bush fruit was rather neglected. -'ll schools had been provided wit' the seed of pinus radiata and cupress" macroonrpn, and thirty with eucnlyp'-us viminalis and gunnii. The pinus ra«7iat.a.had bepn generally successful, whim there had hewn only a, poor strike of macrecarna. For the Board’s award’s for this class of work, the best schools were: Trwell, Southbridge. and Diinsandel. Glentunnel was easily first in the forestry nursery work, but had not attempted any of the other lines (fruit tree and genera l ) There was so little between these three schools that the only fair way would be to divide the prize-money equally between them.
