BANK ROBBED

CAUGHT' REDHANDED

SYDNEY, October 17

Two burglars attempted to rob the Coonnbarabran branch of the Bank of New South Wales early this morning. They were caught redhanded by the local police, after ail exchange off shots.

William Thomas, aged 22, ledger keeper, was the only occupant, and lie was awakened by the burglars, who hit him on the head with a piece of iron, and then gagged and bound him. He, however, managed to get free, and he escaped unnoticed. He then brought the police, who found the burglars in the act of wrecking the strong room door, and commanded them to surrender.

Several shots were fired, the burglars using Thomas’s revolver. Finally they submitted to arrest. The bank’s strong room contained upwards of six thousand sterling..
