Three medical men, Drs Barrie, Riley, and Thompson, and Charles Melvin Focken, a lecturer at the medical school way© fined : eacli. £i> 10s in the Police Court and ordered to pay damage £lO sterling for wilfully damaging a Government advertising sign in Kawarau Gorge, which had been hewn down by them as a (protest against the desecration of the beautiful countryside. Magistrate Bundle remarked that defendants must have been intoxicated with zeal.
