PIG BREEDERS’ REQUEST
COMPULSORY GRADING. DEPUTATION TO MINISTERS. * (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) . WELLINGTON, October 16. A request for a system of compulsory grading and sale of all pigs on booh weights, was made to the ActingPrime Minister, and the Minister o. Agriculture, by a deputation of New Zealand pig breeders and bacon curers. It was contended that if such a system was not introduced, there was a danger of the industry going out of existence. Hon. Mr Ransom said that any innovation would have to bo brought about by a gradual process. It had been suggested that the standardisation of cheese, had not been an unmixed blessing. He could not imagine that uhe grading of pork would injure the industry, but there might he other detrimental factors. He understood that legislation was not required, but that the system could be arranged 'h.y regulation. He hoped that whatever was done, would be in the interests of the industry as a whole.
