A GIRL’S DEATH
INQUEST VERDICT.

At the inquest on Christine Mar* garet Carte, aged twenty, daughter of a bank manager of Palmerston North, who fell fifty feet from a bedroom window at the Hotel Kensington on 12th October, Miss Aitken (secretary and companion to Mrs Carter)* gave evidence that Christine was most cheerful and had neither a love-affair or financial worries. She never threatened suicide. Witness saw her leaning out of the window on 11th October and warned her not to lean too far. Christine, was apparently looking at a tree. She was very interested in nature. Joseph Kirk (hotel proprietor) gave evidence that. Christine was watching birds fluttering' below. He , and his wife often watched, . Airs Carter gave evidence- that Christine was always happy. They shared a bedroom. .She went to the bathroom and when slie returned Christine had disappeared. The Coroner expressed the opinion that -Christine had been attracted by something outside and over-balanced. He returned a verdict of accidental death.
