BOWLING

OPENING OF SEASON, ■ j ' ■ • ■ The Hokitika Bowling Club opened the season formally yesterday afternoon when there were a number of lady and other visitors present in addition to twenty-four players taking part in the opening game. The President (Mr J. J. Breeze) briefly., i extended; a welcome to the visitors J and players and expressed the hope that ’tlie season would prove a successful and enjoyable one. He then called on Mrs Breeze to roll up the first bowl, which she did - in good Style, then declaring the season open amidst applause. During the afternoon the wives of the President and Vice-President Mesdames J. J. Breeze and 0. J. King were the hostesses, providing a very dainty afternoon tea which was greatly appreciated ;by visitors and nlavers alike.

Then Mr C. J. King (Vice-Presi-dent) presented the Duncan *0u t p to ) lust season’s single champion, Mr D. Stevenson, who had added another win to his many successes for this trophy. In 'congratulating-the « r in( ner the hope was expressed that some of the younger players would make an effort this year to win the trophy. Mr Stevenson in again taking chorge of the trophy urged players to make every effort to win- the trophy which always provided good "games,- though he would do his utmost to again win it. Cheers for the winner concluded the presentation. Play was then resumed, the Vice-President’s side proving successful by a substantial margin.
