From Public Works, Wellington, forwarding a copy of proclamation pioclaming closing portions of Road in Block Xin, Waimea S.D.—Received. Millner estimating repairs to Kapiton, bridge approach at £222 12s; stating clearing of Humphreys road drain was being put in hand; reporting repairs. t 0 collapsed culvert on Kapitea road; additional water-way on Lake road £22; scouring of approach to Ellis bridge, Waitaha road attended to; also reporting on several small flood damage works, and supplying monthly report bn works carried out in the Ridings. .—Received. •
From J. C. Macfarlano reporting on inspection of suggested aeroplane
landing at Hau Hau; estimating the cost for clearing and gravelling at £740 per acre.—Received.
A DEPUTATION.
Mr R. Whiley waited on the Couniel in regard to the state of Wall road, seme 2i miles in length, stating he was erecting a white pine mill near Lyes’ 'bush. The road at present was not fit for heavy traffic.
Mr Chesterman said the Council had discussed this subject some meetings ago when Mr .Schroder had waited on the Council on the same question.
Mr Murdoch after referring to the proposal, moved that the Chairman and members of the Central Riding, report to next meeting. Seconded by Mr 'Chesterman and carried. -
It was also resolved that the Council dump up to 50 loads of gravel at the road junction, Mr Whiley to place the gravel along the length of the road.
FINANCE COMMITTEE’S REPORT
1. Your Committee has the honour to report that the accounts presented for the month of September has been examined carefully, and 'beg to recommend that the amount as approved, totalling £2,002 1/s be passed, for payment.
2. The quotations for a superannuation fund from two source;; are referred to the Council for decision. 3. The Committee recommend that tho failure of millers to supply, re* turns for timber levy purposes under thp provisions' (of the Finance Act, 1927, No. 2, be referred to the County Solicitor for action.
4. Regarding proposals by the Audit Office respecting payments between .Council meetings for the convenience of workmen, the Committee recommends that the practice of the past ibe discontinued, and in future , payments of the nature referred 10. .bo not made.—Received and adopted It was resolved to take no action n regard to Clause 2. •i " a TREASURER’S REPORT The Treasurer’s -report (pub’.'slica yesterday) was redd and received.-. ORDER PAPER. The Chairman , moved‘ ‘That the presented for the month of (September, 1930, as revised a n d recommended for payment by the Finance Commitee, amounting to £2002 17s be passed for payment, Seconded by -Mr Murdoch and carried. Mr Keenan moved:—“That the Council authorise the clearing of Municipal road drain to the river; cost about £10.” Seconded by Mr Ward and earned. Mr Donovan moved that a man beemployed for a fortnight in repairs Three Mile Bluff track. Seconded by Mr Jeffries and carried. Air Keenan moved that the OverBeer; report on drainage work at Tvanieri township. Seconded by Mr Chesterman arid carried. SPECIAL AIEETING. From .Auditor and Coritroller General, Wellington, returning the annual balance sheet certified to with comment attached —Received. The Chairman moved:—“That the audited annual balance sheet and statement of accounts for the year ended,. March 31st. 1930, as before the Council, be rccei v ed and ee t ded. ’’ Seconded b» Mr Jeffries and earned. 'The Chairman moved:—“That tlib Visual arrangements bo made tor the publication of the balance sheet and statement of accounts.” Seconded by Mr Murdoch and carried. The Council rose at 4.15 P-m.
