SOLAR ECLIPSE

SCIENTISTS AT NIUAFOII. (Australian Press Association.) NIUAFOU, October 13. The New Zealand ec.ipse expedition, under the leadership of Dr. Adams, is busily preparing for the observation of the phenomenon on October 22nd. The instruments have been erected and tested, and drills in the form of rehearsals of the processes of the observations are being held. Fourteen telescopes have been erected on the island by the Ameri an party, including one with a fib feet focus, which points, directly at the sun. Last week light showers fell, but the weather now is warmer. All the party are well, and finding much of

interest on* the island. The r /1canic cone measures five miles in diameter, with a lake in the centre of the crate! 1 , three miles in diameter. New Zealand time signals are being received by the expedition.
