(United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] (Received 9.25 a.m.) LONDON, October 13. Imports decreased by £19,764,000 and exports by £12,363,000;- re-ex-ports by £1,382,000. The principal decreases are shown in imports of grain and flour which was £3,795,000, meat £1,102,000, food and drink non-dutiable £1,990,000, dutiable £974,000, wood and timber £1,594,000, cotton £1.378,000, oil seeds etc. £1,126,000, rubber £1,175,000. Exports decreases were: Iron and steel inanufactures thereof £1,371,000, cotton yarns manufactures £3.483,000, Woollen ditto £1,085,000.It may be pointed out that wholesale prices have fallen nearly fifteen per cent, compared with a year ago so the total decline of imports and exports are not seriously greater than might be accounted for by the differences in prices.

Out of seventy-two per cent of members of the Federation of British industries definitely voting on the questionnire relative to merits of free trade, protection, Imperial preference and a combination of the two latter, four per cent favoured the existing free trade -system, ninety-six per cent favour a change. Not a single i nclustrial group showed a majority in favour of free trade, upon whieli the Council unanimously passed n resolution that the Federation should- vigorously press for the estalilishment of a system combining protection of industrial interests at Home with the widest possible extension of inter-Empire preference,
