NEW ROUND ROUTE
SOUTH ISLAND ATTRACTION. The South Island has wonderful possibilities for the motor tourist, and the completion of road construction now in progress will provide a round route that will rival anything that the North Island has to offer, and will certainly excel any other motor drive in the world, according to a report received from the touring manager of the Auckland Automobile Association. He has recently been privileged to inspect several lengths of new roads, which eventually will form a portion of a round circuit of the South Island, The route to which the report refers is from Blenheim to Murchison, either via Nelson, or direct over Tophouse, through the Buller to Lyell, lnangahua, and Westport, thence via the coast to Greymouth, and on to the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. The route will continue over the Haast Pass to Hawea and Pembroke, and. thence to Queenstown. “The road round Lake Wakatipu to Kingston would, upon completion, form another link, and the route would then continue to Manapouri, Te Anau, and thence along the Milford Track line to Milford Sound,” the report 'states. “The return North could then be made via Invercargill, Dunedin and Christchurch. It might be said tiiiTo such a route is rather ambitious, but if New Zealand is to cater for overseas tourist traffic the Government must spend money to attract that traffic, for surely this Dominion has more to offer in the way of scenic wonders in a confined area than any other country.”
