SIR JOHN McKENZIE

RE-ERECTION OF MEMORIAL. Years have elapsed since the memorial to Sir John McKenzie suddenly disappeared from the hilltop at Pukiviti, and since then many suggestions have been made as to a suitable site for its re-erection. The Government has now decided that it be placed on Puketapu, a very high cone-shaped hill on the right-hand side of Palmerston going north. • The drawing prepared will allow the memorial to serve also as a trig station for survey purposes. , The .structure is to be built of Litli Milestone and concrete with iron stairways inside to give access to the top. Large panels of polished granite will be engraved with suitable inscriptions. The height is to lie 43ft., making it a more distinct landmark than the olct memorial.
