Tbe tourist traffic from Australia to New Zealand promises to be heavy during the coming season. General managers of various banks in Australia are holding a conference with the chairman of Directors and Governor of the Commonwealth Bank, on the banking position but no report of their deliberations is yet available. N.S.W. COAL EXPORTS. SYDNEY, Oct. 8. Heavy decreases are shown in exports of coal ifrom Newcastle. In all (>50,498 tons valued at £890,449 sterling was sent overseas and interstate for (the first nine months of this year, against 1,045,477 tons valued at £1,220,722 for the corresponding period last year, FEDERAL SENATE. . CANBERRA, Oct. 8. It is understod that the Senate will not meet for ,a special economy session until 6th November, the week after the Houne of Representatives.

Jin an .'amended Budget, Premier Hogan proposes to reduce his own salary by eighteen per cent, members of the Assembly seven and,a half per cent and members of the Legislative Council hv five per cent. Tlie Director of Agriculture, Mr McDonald, stated as the result of the recent, welcome rains, that tlie previous estimate of the State harvest of seventy million bushels is still possible. Trade figures for August in the Commonwealth show imports totalled £6,881,848 sterling compared with £12,488,415 last year. During the same month the Cotiimonwealth exported goods and bullion valued, at £5,049,821 being a decrenJse of £2,204,016 compared with 1929 ■ Premier Bavin announced that as a result of the setting aside of railway .awards, a number, of railway men who were dismissed are to ho reinstated. WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, October 7. At the wool sales 11,532 bales were offered, and 9,689 were sold, including 256 which were disposed of privately. All the better class wools met with good general competition, and realised about late rates. This also applied to good skirtings, but faulty sorts were difficult to sell, and there were heavy withdrawals. Greasy merino made 16d.
