Monday, October 6th

The Committee met at the Technioa,l iSchool Room at 7 p.m. Present: Messrs A. C. Armstrong (Chairman), W. Ei. Richards, W. H. Shannon, H. R. . Sweney, P. Ohesterman, J. J. Breeze, R. J. Pedder, and J. Cbnning (Hon. Sec.)., An apology was made for , the 3 absence of Mrs Wilson.

The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved.

From Woodstock School Committee enclosing £1 Is towards dental clinic. —Received and appreciative vote' pasesd it, (being, resolved that the scholars receive attention by, the dental officer a 9 soon as possible. Correspondence. forwarded (by the Chairman in connection with opposition to the passing of a clause in the Washing-Up Bill,- affecting the status of 'tlie Hokitika High School Board was read and approved. From Dental Nurses reporting:— Miss James .808 attendances, 108 operations ; Miss Gardner 187 attendances, 104 operations,—Received. RECTOR’S REPORT. From Rector (Mr J, L. Monzies) reporting the attendance for . period to Brd October waa secondary roll 102, average attendance .98.4, primary roll 320,; average attendance , 811. The attendance has been very good with almost a total absence of sickness. For the past three weeks Miss E. Dale has been absent on sick leave, her place being filled temporarily by Mrs J. El. Knowlen. In the final of, the primary sdiools Newman (Shield .competition against We-stpoi't school team our 'boyvs were successful; appreciating a donation of a football by Mr Yarrall after their success. A party from Reefton D.H.S. arrived on 2oth Sepfember and played 'basket balL and football games, our teams being successful in both contests. Thanks were voiced ,to all . those .people who so generously, assisted in billeting both the Westport and Reefton ' pupils.—Received. It was resolved to forward a letter to Miss Dale .hoping for her speedy recovery and to thank Mr Yarrall for his 'donation. The Treasurer’s'verbal'report was received. The Rector reported the annual fair would be Meld on the last Wednesday in ; October., . 1 i The' Chairman and' Secretary were instructed to interview the Chairman of the High School Board on various matters affecting the School.' Messrs Conning and Shannon were appointed visitors for ■ the month. : The Committee rose at 8 p.m.
