WANGANUI PORT. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association,) t 7" \ WANGANUI, October 3. A representative well attended conference of delegates from dairy factories over a wide area, who are doing business with the Wanganui port, met this morning and resoiutio-ned that the meeting protests against the action of the Dairy Control Board in. completing the agreement with the Overseas Shipping Companies, which restricts exportation Of dairy produce' through, the port of Waiigahtii. It expresses the opinion that conditions should ttot have been agreed: to- by the Board in the. interests of the dairy industry, because it establishes a precedent for, iHtwrjPerenc'e '[throughout New Zealand, vith the right of dairy factories to ship their produce through any grading ports, It asks the Minister of Agriculture to request the Board to take immediate nteps to re-establish the conditions which were established at Wanganui prior to the coming into force of the present new agreement. A further resolution requested Parliament to take a plebiscite of the dairy industry with a view to the abolition of.the Board. RANGITATA ARRIVES. WELLINGTON, Oct. 3.
The Rangitata arrived to-day with 400 passengers,' ‘including 28 boys for ■Flock House, 1049 bags of mail, 630 parcel receptacles. One passenger, W. T. Owen, elderly, was buried at sea. During the final stages of the voyage, a heavy gale was experienced, reducing the speed considerably.
N.Z. UNEMPLOYMENT. SLIGHT DECREASE. WELLINGTON; October 3. According to a statement issued by the Minister of Labour, there was a decrease of 74 unemployed registered for the iveek ended last Monday, against the . previous rweek. Monday’s total was 6025. The table with dependants, and without dependants shows:—Auckland 960 and 729; Wellington 523, and 411; Christchurch 663 and 427; Durtedin 002 and 142; Invercargill 116 and 75. KELBURN BURGLARY. WELLINGTON, Oct. 4. On a recent evening a burglary occurred in Kelburn. It is understood that a house in Grove Road, Kelburn, suffered from an unwelcome .visitor or visitors, and the occupants will have an excellent reason for remembering the call as it cotst them the sum of £6O. PROWLER ESCAPES. WELLINGTON, Oct. 4.
A woman resident of Oriental Bay. returning home unexpectedly, discovered a masked man carrying a revolver p~o wiling in the grounds. She gave such a loud scream for help that the intruder evidently thought it wisest to dece-me, and as there was no one to follow him up, made his escape.
