ROAD RACE
WAT MATE TO CHRISTCHURCH. 68 RIDERS STARTED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WAIMATE, October 4. The longest road race held yet in New Zealand commenced this morning, sixty-eight riders starting for the 145 mile journey to Christchurch, where the winner , should arrive about three o’clock.
iu,ay,or George Dash started the two limit men at 7.15 o’clock in the presence of a large crowd. The scratch riders started at 8.45.
. The weather is fine, with up wind and the road is reported good. Non-starters, were: T. Grieg, G. R> Morris, M. P. Smith, J. Phillison, C. E. Jones, (Christchurch) E. B. Taylor (Temuka), M. B. Munro, Dargaville), E. A. Reiher (Rangiorn) D. Newell (Stone, yliurst.)
