STRUCK BY LIGHTNING

SOME REMARKABLE RESULTS.

AUCKLAND, September 30. Lightning was responsible for a startling occurrence at Aka Aka. Dur-ing-a rain; squall about 3 o’clock, lightning struck the side of Mr James Jolly’s residence, and startled by the flash, a horse which Mr Jolly was riding nearby reared and threw its rider heavily. Mr Jolly received bruisres and shock, and to-day was confined to his home. The side of the house was extensively damaged. Fifteen panes of glass in a conservatory were shattered, a downpipe was torn from its position and crumpled, and boards were smashed. In the house telephone wires were torn from the wall. Mrs Jolly was near the telephone at the time, and she received a severe electrical shock.
