The New South Wales State election campaign is probably the most bitter on record. The commercial interests arc speculating where Mr Lang. Leader of the Labour Party, is to obtain bis millions to enable him to fulfil his lavish promises.
The Premier, Mr T. Bavin, and his supporters are telling the people that tile return of Air Lang”s Party would spell disaster; not only to the State, but to tbe Commonwealth.
There was a significant development to-day. Mr Lang appeared unexpectedly in the Federal capital, and it is understood that be asked the Federal Cabinet to refrain from announcing a,nv salary of wage reduction in the case cif the civil servants on the ground that it would prejudice the State Labour Party’s chances at tho forthcoming elections.
Mr. Lang claimed that Labour's return to .power is already assured. Mr Lang then left for an adjoining centre, Qiioaiilioaya.il, where lie kept in touch with the Federal Cabinet’s, doings. , , It is further reported, from Canberra to-night, that a threat overhangs. the Federal Ministry to tK* effect that any New South Wales member of the Ministry , who agrees to a wage .reduction will ...be asked - do-re-sign,- au.d-will be replaced - bv another who will give, effect to the State Labour policy. The Federal Ministry thus faces an embarrassing situation.
