SCOTLAND FOREVER. Urging the immediate consideration of the project to join the Forth ; and Clyde by canal, the Solicitor-General for Scotland lately delivered in Edinburgh a rousing speech on the need for a revival of the Scottish spirit of progress. He scouted the idea that Scottish business would in future be controlled from South of the Border. He suggested that a big canal between the Forth and the Clyde would carry virtually the whole of the traffic between America and the Baltic,'and that Scottish trade would receive an enormous impetus. His concluding observation was an appeal to Scots not to become I merely “thick-headed” in trying to live up to their reputation as “hardheaded.”
