(By Telegraph—Preen Association). THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. 111 the Legislative Council, the London and New Zealand Bank Limited Amendment Bill was read a second time. National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum Bill, Births and Deaths Registration Amendment Bdi, New Zealand Institute Amendment Bill, and Incorporated Societies Amendment Bit. were received from the House of Representatives and read a first time.

The Council adjourned at 2.46 p.m ti 11.2.30 p.m. next day.

THE HOUSE

In the House of Representatives, the Otago Presbyterian Church Board of Property Amendment Bill, and McLean Institute Bill were read a third time and passed. Then consideration of vote of £275,000 for the Defence Department was resumed. Air Contes moved that tlie sum should be reduced by £lO, as an indication that the Alin inter should inform the House fully what pi ovision tlie Government was making for the future with regard to defence.
