; STIFF FINES IMPOSED. f ( At Rotorua some substantial fines were imposed for overloading motorlorries, by Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M. The cases were brought against G. McDonald,- cartage contractor, by the Rotorua traffic inspector. In one instance he found two lorries each loaded with 25'benzine containers. Later he had his suspicions aroused, and he spent the night watching on the Matnaku Hills, with the result that he caught McDonald in the early dawn with a load of (5 ton 13cwt. In the first case the magistrate finvd each of the defendants £5, with cost amounting to £lO 4s. In the second which he considered a far mare serious offence, as a warning had been given, he fined McDonald £lO, with 10s costs.
