DISMISSED POSTAL OFFICIALS
MATTER OF APPEAL
AUCKLAND, Sept. .25
Further reference to tlie recent dismissal of postal officials was made at this morning’s meeting, of the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, when tlie opinion was expressed that the final court oi appeal in such cases should be the Supreme Court and not Parliament.
Mr. A. G. Ikmn *aid the proper control of Government officials was very desirable, but he did not think that appeals against dismissal should be .referred, to Parliament for final consideration. They should be dealt with by an authority that had no other interests and was not prejudiced on either side. In Parliament most members were keeping one eye on the voting machines. ill- L. A. Eady thought the motion a very sound idea, while Mr A\. A. Boucher considered the Chamber should support the Wellington Chamber in protesting against any suggestion of reinstating the officials who were dismissed, on the ground that it was imperative in the interests of the business community that tin ir commuinicatons 'should lie observied with the utmost secrecy by postal officials.
