A general election in New South Wales is usually fought with much spirit and some bitterness of lecliug, and tlie .present campaign appears to lie no exception to tin 1 rule. Air Lang, the leader of the State party, lias declared a policy which, in its cssen tials, is altogether 'opposed to tin general agreement, and that is wba makes the appeal ot the elcctois ol such importance. Mr Lang has been somewhat prodigal with promisee,' and his attitude is in striking contrast to that ol the Acting-Prime Minister of Australia. Speaking in Alel I ,bourne recently, Air Fenton made a moving appeal for a joint effort to restore thd prosperity of the country. “Lei iis 'hot be recreant to tlie trust imposed upon us by the pioneers,’’ he said. “Let u [ - figlit on against all difficulties. Let us prove ourselves worthy of the stock from, which we have sprung, doing our duty, and prosperity will be onus.” The coming elections in New South Wales will show whether the Alother State is prepared to do. her part, make the necessary' sacrifices, and, in fact, give the Commonwealth a lead.
