TO PAY TOURISTS’ STEAMER FARES.

WELLINGTON, September 26

Free steamer fares will he granted under certain conditions, during October and November by the Mount Cook Tourist Coy. of New Zealand, Limited, to Australians who wish to spend a holiday travelling in the Dominion.

Instruction for publicity in the Commonwealth were sent to-day by cable, and an extensive advertising camaign also is to start there immediately..

The Mt. Cook Company has. the cooperation of the Government Tourist Department, which has undertaken tne booking in Australia.

The plan was announced to-day by Mr H. Coxhead, of Timaru, Secretary of the Mount Cook Coy., and of the. Tongariro Park Tourist Coy., Ltd., The Company was paying the' steamer fares, he said, realising that the tral'fiv from Australia was going to be slacker this yeiir than previously, and it was felt that, by means of this scheme the numbers during the coming season would he maintained at their ordinary level.
