WELLINGTON V. WAJRARAPa. WELLINGTON, Setpember 20. Wellington and Wairarapa met at Athletic Park. The ground was in splendid condition, and the attendance at.the start of the game was nearly six thousand. Cooke captained Wellington, and Harvey lead Wairarapa. Nikorima replaced Mill for Wairarapa. After ten minutes Wairarapa forwards swept play to the line, where Reid forced his wav over. Fuller failed to convert. Wellington retaliated liotly, Oliver scored a great try near the posts,. a determined solo effort taking him through the oppositions From a scrum near th e posts, Price secured and went over, Cooke converted. Play continued ragged, with Wellington using the wind freely as an aid in linekicking. Cooke goaled from a penalty in front of the posts. Subsequent play was more even, the visiting forwards played a big hand, but Cooke was responsible for wonderful saves. Wellington came back and securing from a scrum, the backs handled in turn, letting Mackay over. Cooke missed. Just on half-time, Julian sent Oliver over for a good try. Welilngton led by 17 to 3 at half-time. Wellington immediately, attacked on the resumption, Mackay scoring after a clever passing bout. Wairarapa showed up and Nikorima was nearly over. Fuller missed a pass at the end of a promising rush. Fuller also missed a penalty well out. Wellington’s next try was the result of a brilliant cut through by Page, Cooke coming through fast to take a pass and score. Cooke missed an easy kick. Almost immediately, Fuller picked speiplid penalty goal, which he followed with another good one. The final score was:—Wellington 42; Wairarapa 19. WELLINGTON COLTS PEAT NELSON. NELSON, September 20.
