DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC

'William Tyrrell, .an elderly man ami baker by trade, who had been ill for several years, died at the hospital under an anaesthetic preliminary to an urgent operation.
FARMER’S DEATH
ASHBURTON, September 17
Thomas Power, a middle aged farmer was found dead in a paddock near his farm at Winehmore this morning. Details are lacking, hut it is understood Power took a shotgun when lie went round the'sheep at an early hour, and later he was found dead near a fence.

GISBORNE, Sept. 17
Joepli Arthur Parker, aged lb, died at a private hospital last night whilst' under : an .anaesthetic.
RAT KILLS CHICKENS
AUCKLAND. Sept. 17
One -rat killed 112 chickens on ft Mangere poultry 'farm last 'Friday night. Tim rat bored ft tunnel three, fleet long under the floor of a shed and in the tunnel dead chickens were found stored there, also ft rat's neatwith thirteen young ones. . d: AWARD ISSUED. AUCKLAND, Sept. 17. The Arbitration Court issued an award for the Wellington builders, contractors and general labourers. In a memorandum the Court says it was unable to increase the wages at the present time. It.was impossible to •increase the basic rate for the unskilled labourer for the resultis of production do not justify it. The minimum rate in such circumstances was not 'a 'matter of ethics but of practical possibilities. An, increase would have repercussions in almost every trade. . Mr Monteith, workers assessor, dissents from the judgment. DEATH FROM POISONING. WHARCARET, September 17. This morning Henri. Germane, a farmer of Kokopu about -50 year's of age was admitted to the hospital suffering from the effects of poisoniug by blue stone. He received prompt treatment but died at 10.30 o’clock. An inquest will be held to-morr6w, SUDDEN DEATH. ' DUNEDIN. September 17, Margaret Elizabeth McKay aged 64 married, left to go shopping this morning and collapsed in the street dying shortly after. She is supposed t-o have suffered from a heart attack.
