One of the most important features of the new tariff is the imposition of specific duty in addition to an ad valarem impost on textiles from yarn right through to; the finished garment. Gountervaling duties have been introduced and the Donning Budget was wiped out, being replaced in almosr every instance by higher than the prevailing rates. Fresh meat rates increased. ' Lamb-and mutton is now two cents and two nnd a half to six respetcively. Agricultural machinery shows a heavy advance. Numerous items on the intermediate list have jumped 'from seven and a half to fifteen per cent. General seven and a half to 25 while generally British preference remains free.
