WHALERS RETURN. FROM SCANDINAVIA. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association WELLINGTON, September 13. The whaling ship “Kosinos,” en route from Sande Fjord, Norway, and accompanied by two chasers, is due at Wellington on Sunday evening. She will remain in port l'or a levy days, to prepare for her voyage to Ross Sea, where she will engage in whaling. This is the vessel's second trip to Ross Sea,; and the Antarctic whaling ground. Seven chasers attached to the Kosinos are berthed at Glasgow Wharf, avvaiting her arrival. The Kosmos will be the first whaler to arrive for the 1930-31 season. The Sir James Clark Ross and the O: A. Larsen are also expected here shortly. CLOTHES DRIVE. "' -BY- - MEN ON THE ROAD: *;.}■ ]:: DUNEDIN, September 14. The Commercial Travellers’ Association conducted a cash and clothes drive in the cty and the suburbs yesterday, and their, efforts met with overwhelming success. The cash takings represent approximately £3OO. It is estimated that in cubic measure, wall over 300 tons ol articlss( Clothing anil food) have been received, and that by the time that everything is in, the total quantity would be 350 tons. ' TAHITI’S -MAILS. .WELLINGTON, September IH. The Post Office has notified the receipt, of the, following cablegram: “The mails,which left Wellington on August 12 by the Tahiti, via San Francisco and which, owing to the foundering of the Tahiti, .were transferred to the Ventura arrived win London on September 11.” This was the date on which the mails were scheduled to arrive, had nothing happened. Apparently the quick trip made by the Ventura,\vas followed bv speedy transit across America.
BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN DROWNED. : i AUCKLAND, September 13. The fourteen-foot sailing boat lounci capsized yesterday lias been identified as that in which Terence Ernest Redding, aged eighteen a Takapuna Grammar School pupil, set out on an excursion to Rangitoto Island. The lad 1» believed to have been drowned, but he was a strong swimmer, and it is just possible that lie made a landing on the coast. A seaplane is searching the locality this morning.
