WESTERN MAORI SEAT
THE REFORM CANDIDATE. WELLINGTON, September H. The leader of the Opposition, Mr Coates, has officially ‘ endorsed the' selection of Mr 'Jaite Te Tomo as the Reform Party’s candidate for the West era Maori by-election. Mr Taite Te Tomo was organiser for the late Sir Maui Pomare for nineteen years, and be is conversant with political questions as they affect the native population. His candidature has also received the endorsement of Te Rata Mahuta, the Maori “king” of Waikato, and as a result he will find widespread support. Te Rata has issued a circular to the Maori people, in which he exhorts them to give their support to the Reform Party’s official candidate at the election, and he states that he has agreed to Te Tomo standing for the seat in order to occupy Sir Maui’s place in Parliament for the remainder of its term.
