GREAT ERUPTION

AT MT. STROMBOLI. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). ROME, September 12. There was a startling and tremendous explosion from the crater of the volcano Stromboli, which broke out into extraordinary activity yesterday. Showers of flaming stones and molten matter from the volcano have started fires throughout the country. There are four dead and more persons have been injured.

1 A destroyer and two torpedo boats have been despatched 'from Messina. It is denied that the entire cone ol the mountain has been blown off. STROMBOLI’S TOLL. ROME, September Vl. Mount Stromboli is in eruption, tlie worst since 1907. Five are dead and fifteen seriously injured. Two victims perished in a river of burning sand. The body of another disappeared in the lava.
