ARMY’S PLANS. [United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] DELHI, Sept. 10. The military experts have put forward a proposal for a large scale expedition to subdue and bring under permanent control tile insurgent Tribes on the North-West Frontier, hut financial difficulties stand in the way of their scheme. The opinion is expressed that the Afridi unrest has not subsided and the Army authorities argue that a concerted atieinpt to subdue this region, once and for all, would prove less costly in the long run than continual vigilance and the suppression of outbursts, and would enable a reduction of the frontier forces to be made.

The Viceroy’s Executive Council has carefully considered the matter, but the fact that the proposed move would cost at least twenty-three millions sterling would appear, in view of the present financial stringency, to put it out of the question. CALCUTTA HOSTILITIES. DELHI, Sept, 9 The frustrating' of an "attempt to organisc a procession for. the reception of Miss Madeline Slade, the daughter of Admiral Slade, who is an ardent disciple of Mahatma Gandhi, led to rioting in the Indian quarters of Calcutta last night.
