The Chairman referred to the death ol the father of''Councillor Jeffries and' moved that a vote of sympathy De recorded on - the minutes expressing their sympathy with the relatives. granted subject to the usual conditions.
From Overseer Millner reporting on road access for A. Black, to back section at Ho Ho; stating the. repairs to Teal Duck track bridge would cost £4O to £SO; indicating that drainage on Station Road asked for by R. A. Harcourt junr. would cost £3l; supplying monthly report on district road works for August.—Received; Mr Brack’s request was acceded to. It was resolved to forward report on Teal Duck track bridge to Mr Paganini for his information, Mr Donovan stating Mr Paganini would be prepajred to pay a subsidy of £ for £; report on drainage on Station Hoad was received and no action taken, members not being favourable to giving consideration in view of past attitude of adjoining settlers in regard to requests for gravel reserves.
From Commissioner of Crown Lands stating steps are being taken to appraise the timber on reserve Christchurch Road.—Received. From Stoop and party, "Woodstock, asking for favourable consideration to application for subsidy for prospecting at Back Creek.—Received. The Chairman moved that the application be recommended.—Seconded by Mr Keenan and carried. From Ross Lime Coy., Ross, offering lorry parts for sale;—Received ; to be filed From Ci (I. Sellers, Hokitika, notifying that Mr Millard of Okarito intends to take, action against the Council for his claim for £B3.—Received. From luanguhun County Council, forwarding four petitions for presentation to Parliament, urging a subsidy on gold and asking that every endeavour be made to procure signatures thereto.—Received. The Chairman moved the the request be acceded to, the Chairman to take the necessary action. FINANCE COMMITTEE’S REPORT. Your Committee has the honour to report that the accounostf r ETA report that the accounts presented for the month of August, 1830, have been examined carefully, and beg to recommend that the ‘amount as approved,, totalling £1617 6s be passed for pay-ment.—-Received and adopted.' ORDER PAPER, The Chairman moved—“ That the accounts presented for the month of August 1930, as revised and recommended for payment by the Finance Committee, amounting to £1617 6s be passed for payment. Seconded by Mr Murdoch and carried. Mr Murdoch moved. “That the Council-authorise the Chairman to arrange for a reconnaissance survey of the site suggested at Hau Han hill for an aerodrome, with a view to> ascertaining the 1 probable cost of levelling a suitable area together with the expense involved in access. Seconded by Mr Ward and carried. Mr Donovan moved,—“That Docherty Creek road bo repaired at a cost not exceeding £5. Seconded by Mr Houston and carried. The Chairman asked leave to
withdraw notice of motion, deferred
from last Council meeting relating to timber cutting rights on Christchurch Road. Mr Murdoch moved the request 1 be granted. Seconded by Mr Ward and carried.
Mr Murdoch then moved that the memorandum from the Commissioner of Crown Lands be received and that tlie Commissioner be informed that the Council respectfully submits that the timber standing on the reserve is wholly vested in the Council for the purpose of roading; therefore the whole of the royalty derived from timber on this and all other road 'reserves in the County should be received by the Council.
Mr Murdoch said the principle involved in this motion was of great value to the Council. In this particular case the value involved was not large, but it would affect the Council considerably in connection with other road reserves of the Council. air Ward seconded the motion which was carried. The Council rose at 4.15 p.m.
