PRIZE AWARDS. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 6. In order to obtain complete returns as to tilt' coat of living of the average ho'useliold, tha Government Statistician (Mr Malcolm Fraser) recently circulated a number of queries to householders, and the replies received have contained a wealth of information, enabling a gauge to be made of the expenditure of the average householder. In order to encourage householders to undertake the somewhat arduous task of keeping a detailed record of their household expenses, prizes were offered for the fivost-corefuily-fcompiled records. In all 332 budgets were received, somewhat less than was hoped for. In the North Island the first prize, of £2O. was won 'by Mrs M. E. Upton, of Napier; three' £u prizes going to (}. R. Tomas (Mt. Eden, Auckland), A. H. Smith (Ei'orslie. Auckland), Thomas Wise-Leach (Herne Bay. A ucklancP. In the Sioiith Thomas Ragg (Geraldine) and C. F. B. Nightingale (Alexandra) shared the first prize of £2O. and one prize of £5, as it was impossible to differentiate between the merits of these two entries. The remaining two prizes of £5 in the South Island section of the competition went to O. J. Arthur (Ashburton', and William Butters (Spreydon. Christchurch). Fifteen prizes of £1 were also awarded.
