HOCKEY
An Invercargill correspondent reports:—The game between North Otago and West Coast, though not providing a particularly inspiring exhibition of hockey, was nevertheless closely contested, both elevens striving hard to give their respective province victory, and thus be able to cross sticks with, v. the runners-up in the B section for the Holden Cup. Throughout the greater portion of the game, North Otago maintained the territorial advantage. but stern defensive work ,by the defenders, of whom N, Olsen; L. Staines were outstanding, "feept the* '' vanguard at bay. In the dying stages of the. game West Coast came away well to equalise and the game having ended in a draw when time was called, under the tournament rules the extra ten minutes was played. After about seven minutes of desperate efforts by both elevens, Miss A. Wills dashed right through amid great excitement to goal for North Otago, time being then called. Miss 0. Stapleton was the pick of the West Coast forwards, while Misses V. Oormack, A. Wills and M. - Wills shone in the North Otago van- d guard. Miss.B. Dalziel and the Clark sisters were reliable backs in the winning eleven.
